UAB Anime Club

We will be having a meeting tomorrow, but since our officer meeting was so late, there will not be a newsletter sent out this week…

[We are almost set-up with the officer meeting and newsletter schedule, but they’re new things this year, so we are continuing to work out the bugs and perfect them…]

Same Room: HB312 | Same Time: 7pm-10pm (we ARE starting closer to 7 this time!)

This week is going to be a more casual night with several shows and ending with Hellsing Ultimate (III or IV).

The shows were hand picked and include:

(Dubbed) Excel Saga - Horror Parody Episode

(Subbed) When They Cry

(Dubbed or Subbed) Karin

(Dubbed) Boogiepop Phantom

And several others if time permits…

Voting is put on hold this week, but we’ll bring it back soon… (Unless it isn’t needed.)

We will start as soon as the computer is up (and Running), so come early this week to catch all the action!

 And Dont Forget CrisisCon is this Weekend in Huntsville… ^__^

I got the Newsletter out early this week, but I guess I forgot the site… I’ve almost got it down guys, so hopefully it’s set now for the future. Thanks for tolerating the transitions… ^__^

We will be having a meeting this Wednesday, Same Room (HB312), Same Time (7pm-10pm). The anime we’re watching this week is a classic that I’m sure everyone has heard of… I’m Talking about Lupin the III. We will be watching the 2nd original movie, which many are unaware that Hayao Miyazaki wrote and directed, “The Castle of Cagliostro (Lupn the III)”. This is the great Lupin movie and has even been called: “…One of the Greatest Adventure Movies of All Time” - Steven Spielberg.

Well I hope to see everyone there, and remember it may take a few minutes after 7pm to get the audio setup, since we usually can’t get in there any earlier, at least for this semester. (There is a class in there before us, and I also have a class up till then.)

A reminder to bring your anime for the anime voting at the end of the meeting… Plz only bring shows or short OAVs, we only have 24min or so to show them. (*A new thing we are doing this semester is during the last 30min of each meeting we will have a vote on anime that members have brought for that night and watch the winner during those last 24min).

We will be watching a movie that needs no introduction tonight: Evangelion Rebuild 1.0 “You Are (Not) Alone”.

We will be watching a High Quality Fansub, since the American Release hasn’t become available yet…

Although this is a good movie, this film does contain some nudity. This is a warning for those who do not wish to see this kind of material.

I’m not sure if we’re voting tonight or not, since I’m going to have to leave early, but I’m sure Cory’s got something if we don’t. Go ahead and bring DVDs if you want though…

Sorry no newsletter this week…. I’ve been busy getting everthing together for AWA this weekend. We ARE having a meeting at usual time and place (7-10pm, HB312).

We will be watching the movie we tried to watch during our Summer meetings… We will be watching the masterpiece that is “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”. This movie is very Miyazaki-like and is just as good, if not better. This movie has not been released in America yet, so we will be watching the HD 720p fansub. (this was taped off of tv, so you do see a logo for about 3-5sec after each break, but I didn’t even notice it. The movie doesn’t every stop or anything.)

We will start the movie at about 7:30pm.

Officers (that are able to make it.): We will be putting posters up today. Please bring thumbtacks if you can, I got tons of tape.

We will be having a meeting tomorrow,. Same Room (HB312), Same Time (7pm-10pm). The anime we’re watching this week is a classic, and I think we should pay tribute to and watch it. As some may know, I started into anime in the time around what most call the Pokemon/Toonami Era (Not to be confused with the new, crappy, “Saturday Only” Toonami, but the 1999 and on “Weekly” [almost everyday] Toonami) I now watch many anime, subbed and dubbed, but I think a look back is good every once in a while to remember and remind us why we watch anime. The movie we’re watching is based on one of the shows that was showcased alot on Toonami during this time. This show has had many spin-offs and alternate story retellings (of which Toonami showed them all together, which was confusing at first… ^-^) By now you know I’m talking about Tenchi Muyo!, and we will be watching the 1st movie: “Tenchi Muyo!: Tenchi in Love”. In keeping with the nostalgic roots, we will be watching the Dub for this movie… I hope this will be a great experience for everyone, and since this movie is more story oriented than the show, fan service is not as much of an issue as it was with the show. I don’t believe there is any nudity in this movie, but if anything “is” shown it is very minimal. Anyways, I hope to see everyone there, and I hope this fresh change of pace will be refreshing… ^_^

While we will be working in the back on the Student Life Poster, we will also be playing Noein on the Screen. Noien is a true hidden gem that has been past over by most people. I can’t say if it ends well (I’m only on epi. 12/24, but it is progressively getting better). I would compare it to a cross between The Animatrix, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Evangelion. It has everything: Action, Drama, the “Eva Depression” stage, Time Travel, Parallel Dimensions, Science, Awesome Art, and Great Character Development.

We’ll probably only watch the first 4-5 Episodes, but if you want to finish the series you can pick it up for about $20 for the full size, 5 DVD box set. (But don’t let this price fool you, it is a really great show, that’s why I couldn’t believe the price when I got it.)

We probably will be watching the Dub for this, since it’s very good.
(except for a few things, but they are minor.)

As I stated in the Latest Newsletter, and for anyone that doesn’t receive the newsletter:

I’m happy to announce we will be having our First Meeting this Wednesday. During this meeting will will also be getting stuff ready for the Student Life Event for Thursday, but we WILL be showing anime, just a little more laid back than usual. So if you are new or just want to get to know us, this would be a great time to do so. We will be testing out our new “Voting Programming”* this week, so bring your anime if you want to put it into the vote. (*A new thing we are doing this semester is during the last 30min of each meeting we will have a vote on anime that members have brought for that night and watch the winner during those last 24min).

Due to unfortunate circumstances, James won’t be returning this semester. So Cory has stepped in as Vice President and has been helping me tremendously, and that is one of the reasons we have been able to start this soon. We have also decided that VP and P will be treasurer, at least for the time being…

It looks to be a great year, and I’m glad we can finally kick it off…

Since only 4 people have come this semester and 3 can’t be there tonight (me included) we will have to skip this week.

Sorry guys, but Participation is one of the keys to keeping these summer meetings going…
